Strengthening Women’s Empowerment to Deepen Girl-Child Education (SWEDGE) is a four year project running in four states across Nigeria; Kwara, FCT, Eboyi and Kebbi, aimed at increasing the enrolment of the girl child in schools, enhancing capacity of women to demand for fair economic and alternative livelihoods as well as ensuring that young people are empowered and mobilised to take ownership and action for girls.

The project is being executed in partnership with ActionAid’s local right partners; Participatory Development Alternative (PDA), Ebonyi, Society Community Development (SCD), FCT, Active Support for Rural People Initiative (ASURPI), Kebbi and Community Empowerment and Poverty Eradication (CCEPE), Kwara. SWEDGE project was developed with the goal of contributing to quality basic education of girls through the empowerment of women. It has the following as objectives:

  • To increase access to quality basic education for girls.
  • To enhance the capacity of women to demand for fair economic alternatives and livelihood.
  • To empower and mobilize young people to take ownership and action for girl child education and economic alternatives for women
