It is with very mixed feelings that I write to inform you that ActionAid Nigeria has officially concluded her local rights programme in AkwaIbom State after 14 tremendous years.
Within this period, our programme concentrated on 14 communities across 4 local governments in the state and our focus was on health, education, governance, and women’s right.
Because of people like you, we changed the lives of 10,080 women, 17,280 children and 105 persons with varying degrees of disabilities.
Let me highlight a few of the great achievements ActionAid made because of supporters like you:
4 primary schools constructed and equipped in Iwo Etor, Ikot Mfon, Ikot Akama and Ndon Utim communities.
4 health centres constructed in 4 communities. Ikot Unya community which used to report high infant and maternal mortality because of the lack of health centre for pregnant women and children are now alive and thriving.
3 skill acquisition centres constructed and equipped in Nkana, Ikot Udobia, and Ediene Attai communities
50 women trained on various skill acquisition in Ikot Udobia and Nkana communities
40 youths formed into cooperatives and supported with training & starter packs to venture into Agribusiness
1 borehole and Market provided for Ikot Umiang Ede and Minya Ntak respectively
1 palm oil processing centre constructed and equipped in Ikot Aka community
Several victims of sexual abuse & teenage pregnancy who dropped out of school and ostracized by their parents reintegrated with their families and back to school.
Worthy of note is that the school in Ikot Mfon was donated by the children of one of our supporters in memory of their beloved. We would love you to also keep the memory of someone special by sponsoring a project with ActionAid. Please, call 07007070700.
Yes, moving out of AkwaIbom is a bit sad but we are glad ActionAid has secured solid partnerships and relationships with the local developmental organisations, local government and the state government to carry on where we have stopped and replicate the same in other communities.
The great work your donations are doing will no doubt continue, but it will in a new location – Crossriver! Yes! And I look forward to giving you updates on our work there soon.
As we move into newer communities, ActionAid will appreciate your continued support to help us change the lives of more people living in poverty and exclusion.
