Right to Health is one of the priority areas in which ActionAid works in Nigeria. Our focus within the theme is the improvement of sexual and reproductive health within our focal communities by working with government, institutions and the organisations of poor people to strengthen the system with relevant policies implementation.
Community systems strengthening (CSS) is therefore an approach we have adopted to promote the development and sustainability of communities and community organisations and actors.
ENR was a six year Integrated Institutional Strengthening, Governance and HIV Prevention Programme, funded by the British Government’s Department for International Development (DFID). Working in partnership with the Society for family Health (SFH) and other partners, we sought to contribute to Nigeria’s achievement of the Millennium Development Goal 6 by reducing the spread of the HIV epidemic and mitigating the impact of AIDS on the lives of the most at risk and vulnerable groups.
Other members of the consortium are Population Services International (PSI), BBC WST, Options Consultancy Services Limited (Options), Benguela Health (Pty) Ltd (Benguela), Population Council and Crown Agents. The programme was implemented in Akwa Ibom, Benue, Cross River, Kaduna, Lagos, Nasarawa and Ogun states.
